First Annual Impact Report
After celebrating The Refuge Ranch’s first year of operations, The Refuge for DMST hope you will read our first Annual Impact Report.
We've had a lot to celebrate!
The first girl we cared for at The Refuge Ranch, came to us for rest and restoration a year ago this August. A total of 17 girls have been in our care since we opened and three girls have graduated from the UT Charter School. The equine therapy program has gone from a trot to a gallup. New friendships were forged among the girls and they are starting to trust again. We have even watched a few girls successfully transition from The Refuge Ranch, and on to the next step in their healing journey.
With that said, we know we always have room for growth and improvement. Caring for the most traumatized children in our community is a high calling. This work is a great challenge and a great joy. And our great goal is to provide the very best care in the country to children who have been trafficked for sex.
To that end, we are constantly evaluating our program and protocols, so we can learn from our mistakes and take steps to make improvements.
To ensure excellence in our daily care, we work with outside auditors like Youth for Tomorrow, who conducts third-party review services on behalf of children in private residential care who are also in the conservatorship of various public agencies (i.e. Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department).
Additionally, as a part of The Refuge for DMST’s stewardship, yearly independent audits of our financial statements are performed by BDO, a worldwide accounting firm with offices in 150 countries, and 300 publicly traded clients in the U.S. alone.
Please take a moment to look over our first annual Impact Report for the latest BDO audit and much more.
