JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Refuge for DMST™ is hiring a PR and Digital Content Manager to work alongside our PR and Communications Director in our Central Services office. This team of two creates the public facing strategy across this organization. Every word, image and video comes out of our small, two-person department.

The PR and Digital Content Manager will have all the essential duties of operating  PR and communications programs, which includes messaging in both traditional and social media, public speaking, external and internal communications and event support.

Additionally, because our PR team also works very closely with the events team and a contracted Content Creator, we are looking for someone who has the organizational skills to project manage many projects across a few different departments at a time, and also has an eye for design. With our contracted Content Creator, you will be assisting larger scale creative projects such as signature videos, brochures, and more, but ideally will have the ability to take ownership over smaller scale printed marketing collateral.

At the core of all tasks assigned to the PR and Communication Manager is the ability and desire to tell the story of The Refuge Ranch with the confidentiality of the survivors as the top priority. A passion for the cause and an understanding of the sensitivities that surround it are crucial.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Public Relations

    • General PR

      • Stay informed and up to date about happenings at The Refuge Ranch, and develop a strategy on how to sensitively share this with our audience

      • Assist in developing public relations strategies and campaigns for engaging donors

    • Social Media

      • Develop a social media plan, specifically Instagram, including strategy, goals, tactics and implementing that schedule

      • Engage our audience by creating relevant and compelling content that our supporters find valuable and delivering that messaging to those people through a variety of communications channels

    • Traditional Media

      • Assist PR and Communications Director with media inquiries

      • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts

      • Assist in developing and writing media pitches that tell the story of The Refuge from many different but compelling angles

    • Event Support

      • Represent The Refuge for DMST at local community events as necessary

      • Act as a welcoming, informative face of The Refuge at local events as needed

      • Communicate the mission of The Refuge to event attendees

      • Create strategy for social media event announcements

      • Assist in creating all marketing collateral needed per event

  • Project Manage

    • Ability to carry a project from start to finish, understanding all components and delegating to the appropriate department

    • Work closely with our contracted Content Creator, creating schedules for multiple projects and keeping the team on track

    • Submit meaningful edits and suggestions on creative projects, all under the guidelines of The Refuge brand

  • Miscellaneous

    • Consistently photograph site happenings at The Refuge Ranch for updated photos on website and marketing collateral

    • Manage content produced for website and social media

    • Create new pages and banners as needed for website

    • Write copy for website as needed

    • Comb through current news each day, pulling the most relevant and trustworthy news to share with our social media followers.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms

  • Thorough knowledge of the mission of The Refuge Ranch and the sensitivities and challenges that come with communicating about child survivors of sex trafficking

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience with or ability to manage content on Squarespace

  • Must be an articulate communicator

  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail

  • Possess the ability to keep information confidential

  • Ability to take ownership, get a task and just go do it

  • Positive attitude

  • Ability to handle changing task list, last minute projects, etc.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ideally has experience in graphic design and photography/has a DSLR camera

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • BA in Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Communications, Graphic Design or a related discipline

  • At least two years’ experience in a similar field

  • Experience with various social media channels including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

  • Excellent interpersonal oral, and written communication skills

  • Experience with Adobe a plus

  • Experience and Squarespace and Wordpress a plus

  • Must be at least 21 years of age, be able to pass a drug screening, and obtain a recent tuberculosis test or chest X-ray verifying no active tuberculosis.

  • Must authorize The Refuge for DMST to check employment references and to conduct a background check in accordance with requirements of the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.

Must look out for the safety and well being of the youth in care by reporting any issues of abuse or neglect suspected at any time to your immediate supervisor and to the DFPS Hotline at 1-800-252-5400.
