TBRI® 101: A Self-Guided Course in Trust-Based Relationships

Part 1

Welcome! We are so excited to have you on board with The Refuge for DMST.

TBRI® 101: A Self-Guided Course in Trust-Based Relationships is a series of self-paced, whiteboard-style video lessons. This course offers an informal, yet thorough approach to Trust-Based Relational Intervention®, an evidence-based intervention for children from hard places of abuse, neglect, and/or trauma. TBRI is at the core of all that we do to properly care for the survivors in our care.

Over nearly eight hours of instruction, Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross will guide you through the principles and strategies of TBRI® and offer practical tips for implementation. Topics include Understanding Trauma, TBRI® Empowering, Connecting, and Correcting Principles, as well as real-life examples and testimonials from caregivers and professionals who use TBRI®. Originally developed as the “TBRI® Online Caregiver Package,” this course served as an online learning option for a research study which measured the effectiveness of TBRI®. This course earned evidence-based practice status and is ranked Highly Relevant on the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse For Child Welfare website.

Every employee and volunteer for The Refuge for DMST are required to complete both Part 1 and 2 of TBRI 101. Before you get started, please email Toni McKinley, Director of Survivor Services, with the subject line: TBRI STUDY GUIDE to receive and print out your follow-along TBRI 101 Study Guide.
